The ten IPL teams need to decide which players they want to keep and release by November 15. After that, the auction pool for the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be set in early December. This year, a unique twist is added as the IPL auction is scheduled to be held in Dubai on December 19. It’s the first time the IPL auction is taking place overseas. Interestingly, this event coincides with India’s second ODI match during their tour of South Africa, set to happen on December 19 in Gqeberha

IPL 2024 Auction Team Purse

For the IPL 2024 auction, every team will have INR 100 crore (approximately USD 12.02 million) at their disposal to build their squad. This marks a INR 5 crore increment from the previous season’s purse of INR 95 crore. The total amount that teams can spend during the auction will depend on the value of the players they release and any funds left unspent from the 2023 auction

Budget for the IPL 2024 Auction

Punjab Kings are currently leading with the highest purse of INR 12.20 crore (USD 1.47 million), while the Mumbai Indians have the smallest purse with just INR 0.05 crore (USD 0.006 million). Sunrisers Hyderabad are holding INR 6.55 crore (USD 0.79 million), and both Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals have INR 4.45 crore (USD 0.54 million) each. Lucknow Super Giants possess INR 3.55 crore (USD 0.43 million), Rajasthan Royals have USD 3.35 crore (USD 0.40 million), Kolkata Knight Riders secured INR 1.65 crore (USD 0.2 million), and defending champions Chennai Super Kings are equipped with INR 1.5 crore (USD 0.2 million).

Surprisingly, even though mini-auctions are shorter than the mega auctions held every four years, they have witnessed some of the costliest deals, especially in the overseas players’ category. For instance, Sam Curran made history as the most expensive IPL player ever, joining Punjab for a staggering INR 18.5 crore in December, just ahead of the 2023 season.
